CONTEST

The Regent University Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) Team is again holding its exciting contest to spread copyright awareness among faculty, staff, and students with an anti-piracy campaign on the Regent University campus.

As a part of the campaign, Regent students are invited to create and submit a 60-second educational video highlighting the importance of intellectual property and copyright protection in their own creative way. The video submissions will be judged by a team of expert writers, television executives, and media industry professionals.

The winning entry will win $1,000. All video submissions must be received by February 20, 2009.

Submissions should be sent to:

Kristen Gwaltney, President
Regent University SIFE
School of Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship
1333 Regent University Drive, Ste 102
Virginia Beach, VA 23464

OBJECTIVE
To curb the theft of intellectual property and create an informative, entertaining, and persuasive 60-second video that motivates others to support the legal downloading of material produced by the entertainment and other media industries.

PROBLEM

Manufacturing, selling, or distributing motion pictures, television programs, music, songs, and other original material protected by copyright or other intellectual property protection systems without the consent of the copyright owner is illegal. There are a growing number of legal ways to download material and media from the Internet.

AWARD
The winning entry will receive additional local, regional, and national exposure coordinated by Regent SIFE and other local media. A winning student employed by Regent University will receive the $1,000 prize through their regular payroll cycle. A winning student who is not employed by Regent University will receive the $1,000 prize by check. This will be reported to the IRS as taxable income. The winning student can elect to receive the $1,000 prize through the financial aid office as a financial aid award.

ENTRIES
  • A 1-minute (60 seconds) student-made PSA on CD or DVD (in AVI, WMV, MPEG, or QuickTime format) that supports an anti-piracy position, or pro-copyright and intellectual property protection.
  • The names of the student(s) creating the PSA should not be shown in the media file, but should be included in the accompanying documents listed below.
  • A one-page explanation of the PSA, and how you strategically designed the message.
  • How you see your entry fitting into an overall anti-piracy project or campaign.
  • How your entry would contribute to the effectiveness of stopping piracy, or supporting the legal downloading of media and materials.
